Skaafin- Mihail Monsters and Animals (mihail oldrim mod)
Skaafin are a race of Daedra mainly found in the Fields of Regret, the oblivion realm of Clavicus Vile. In appearance, they have yellow skin, yellow-reddish eyes, long black horns on their head, with blonde or bald haircuts. Physiologically, they resemble Altmer and Dunmer, having pointed ears and similar facial structure, though they come in varying sizes between three to six feet tall.
The Skaafin appear to have some form of a caste system; the taller Skaafin have more sophisticated dialogue and stronger armor, weapons and magic, often serving as leaders. Skaafin smaller in stature (also known as Lesser Skaafin) are more feral, having a primitive vocabulary and fight using little more than their hands, daggers and lesser magic.
The highest castes are generally arrogant, especially when dealing with mortals, referring to them as worms or insects.
They have a habit of painting (or tattooing) their faces and bodies with black ink, with the lower castes using paintings that in addition to appearing more primitive, cover more of their faces and bodies, compared to the simpler paintings of the higher castes.
Skaafin can use a variety of spells, such as projectile flares and lightning, and Skaafin Masquers can create “Masques”, spectral clones that explode to attack their target. They are known to communicate using mirrors, showing what is on the other side of a different mirror instead of a reflection. As shapeshifters, Clavicus Vile and Barbas are known to take the form of Skaafin outside of their domain.
Like other advanced humanoid clans of Oblivion, although they commonly serve a specific Daedric Prince, the Skaafin clan can be found serving other masters besides Vile, such as Dagon and Sheogorath, the same that happens with clans such as the Dremora, Xivilai or Golden Saint.
During the Daedric War conspiracy in 2E 582, the forces of The Triad began using Skaafin as their minions on Tamriel. In Vvardenfell, they sabotaged a Tribunal Temple mission to Andrano Ancestral Tomb, with even Vivec knowing so little about them beforehand that he described them as “strange daedra”. They would soon after appear in Odirniran and Kaushtarari to retrieve Sunna’rah, storming Seht’s Vault after they obtained it. Having entered the Clockwork City, they were also found in the Ventral Terminus protecting Chancellor Gascone Dusant. In Summerset, they mysteriously appeared in the Monastery of Serene Harmony in Shimmerene, later discovered to be the work of the Court of Bedlam.
As with other high daedra clans, usually humanoid, the clan to which these daedras belong has their vestiges (“daedric souls”) protected by an enchantment that does not allow them to be captured in soul gems, with the exception of black gems that bypass this type of protective magic. Dremoras, Skaafin, Xivilais, Golden Saints, Dark Seducers, among others, are some of the beneficiaries of this protection. This type of enchantment emulates the similar enchantment that protects the souls of men, elves and beastfolk.
(two important final notes:
ESO showed a Herne very similar to a Skaafin, raising speculation that the Hernes were just another type of Skaafin, but the reuse of assets by the ESO developer is common, especially when they will only use 1 npc of a specific creature, not paying off in their sight to do something completely new. They did this with the Aurorans initially, using a Golden Saint, and then they did create specific Aurorans. So, Hernes has always been different, and will continue to be, not at all like Skaafins.
Skaafins use ebony weapons and this is not a problem in the lore. Ebony exists in oblivion widely, because it is not only the blood of Lorkhan, but “of the gods”. Numerous objects are constructed from ebony in oblivion.)
